Housing

Salvation Army Housing

Helping end homelessness in Australia by providing affordable and safe homes for those who need them most.

Salvation Army Housing is the community housing arm of The Salvation Army.

We provide housing for individuals and families who are experiencing or at the risk of experiencing homelessness, are on low incomes and those with specific support needs. We also integrate our tenants into Salvation Army support services, local churches and community groups to help them gain the most from their housing and sustain long term tenancies.

We run a range of tenancy programs which include long-term housing, transitional housing, crisis accommodation and rooming houses. We also develop and build our own social and affordable housing, and work in partnerships with various developers and financiers around Australia to increase the overall stock of housing available for those in most need.

Allison, Salvation Army Housing Tenant

"I went through prolonged domestic violence and ended up self-medicating to deal with my trauma, which led to my children being removed from my care. I was referred to The Salvation Army's Towards Independence program, completed that, plus the other courses required by the Department of Child Protection.

I had two successful transitional tenancies — one with Towards Independence and one with Salvation Army Housing, where I kept getting outreach support from Towards Independence. While I was in their property, I got to have contact visits with my kids, which eventually extended to overnight stays. All my hard work paid off, and my young children were returned to my care full-time.

When a three-bedroom place came up near the kids' school, I was moved into a long-term property with Salvation Army Housing."
