Globally, we operate in more than 130 countries with the Army's International Headquarters in London, England.
Across Australia — in cities, country towns and rural communities — our work touches every demographic and age group. We’re involved in national issues, actively advocating for social change while also bringing hope to people experiencing hardship and injustice, one life at a time with the love of Jesus.
Since our foundations in 19th century London, we express our Christian faith in charitable work to provide both spiritual and social transformation. We believe in keeping our hearts centred on God and reaching our hands out to the world.
This aligns us with the message in the Bible from Titus chapter 2, verse 14: “He [that is, Jesus], gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds” (New Living Translation).

The Salvation Army Australia is a Christian movement dedicated to sharing the love of Jesus.
We share the love of Jesus by:

Recognising that God is already at work in the world, we value:
We are united by our faith and compelled to do good and believe in good every day.
As both a church and charity, we can preach and speak about justice, compassion and other issues that support the welfare of others as we see people holistically with a body, mind and spirit.

The Salvation Army uses a military structure and soldier-like characteristics such as uniforms, flags and ranks to identify, inspire and regulate its mission.

We value and include people of all cultures, languages, abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expressions and intersex status.

Our processes and policies are designed to ensure there is clear and widely accessible communication regarding the legalities of our work and resources.

When William Booth first offered the Gospel and basic social services to London’s underprivileged in the mid-1860s, he could not have conceived the global response to The Salvation Army.
