Believe in good

What you can expect

To feel safe, valued, and treated with dignity and respect.

Our goal is to see you living life in full and thriving.

That may be by nurturing or repairing family relationships or friendships or establishing connections with your community — such as through a local Salvation Army church. We will also support you to pursue your education or employment goals.

A sense of belonging

A sense of belonging

We will work with you to find the right solution for your situation.

To support this, as well as addressing problematic substance use, we encourage you to find a sense of belonging.

You can expect us to:

  • Encourage choice | We believe you have the capacity to identify your needs and guide your own treatment pathways
  • Value partnerships | We work to develop and maintain strong partnerships between services and other health and community agencies to enhance access for people to get the kind of care they want when they need it
  • Be welcoming | We welcome all people without prejudice and seek to support you to access the treatment you need
  • Honour and respect individuality | We strive to recognise and respect people’s differences as they overcome barriers and challenges, seek to accommodate diversity and provide programs to meet the specific needs of the community
  • Be innovative | We work towards being leaders in this field and recognise the need to strive towards best-practice, evidence-based treatment
  • Value our participants’ involvement and feedback | Our service design and improvement is informed by those who use our services and have direct experiences of what works well and what challenges they face in navigating and accessing services

Residential leave feedback

What we heard

Participants agreed that a two-week period of no leave

at the start is helpful to settle into the program (considered on a case-by-case basis).

Participants said that 'leave planning'

completed individually, with staff and with other participants, is extremely beneficial.

All services have different ways of managing leave

from services, timetables and ways to manage participant errands and appointments.

What we will do

Update the practice guideline

Participant leave from residential services. Highlighting connection approaches from the Model of Care.

Create a standard leave form

which uses strength-based language.

Create more opportunities for services

to explore and discuss implementing practice guidelines and developing necessary local processes.

Additional opportunities to assist you

Many Salvation Army corps (churches) and centres provide additional opportunities to assist you on your journey of recovery, including ‘Recovery Church’ gatherings and support groups.
