Lived Experience Engagement Program

Aims to uplift survivor voice by supporting survivor led advocacy and empowerment.

What is modern slavery?

Modern slavery, including human trafficking, occurs when a person is exploited for another’s profit, gain or advantage using coercion, violence, threats or false promises. The main difference between substandard working conditions and slavery is whether the person is free to leave or is being coerced to stay through some means.

The Salvation Army provides a range of support to people affected by modern slavery, including:

  • Support for those who have experienced human trafficking, sex trafficking or modern slavery, including forced marriage
  • Engaging with government, business, corporations and consumers to uncover, mitigate and remediate modern slavery in production supply chains
  • Partnering with local, state and territory governments to develop and implement localised responses to modern slavery and human trafficking
  • Empowering survivor advocates to contribute their expertise to responses to modern slavery and human trafficking
