The Board consists of 12 members — six Salvation Army officers, including Commissioner Miriam Gluyas as Chair, and six independent members, who all share a personal faith in Jesus Christ. The members are:

Responsible for the spiritual leadership of The Salvation Army Australia.
For more than 40 years, Miriam has served the movement in a variety of appointments. These include church planting, multicultural ministry, youth and children's ministry and chief secretary in Papua New Guinea.
She served as divisional commander of the NSW and ACT Division for seven years prior to being appointed as Territorial Commander and is currently one of the Trustees of The Salvation Army Australia Social Fund.

A retired officer, who commenced service as a territorial envoy in 2001 and was commissioned as an officer in 2003. Over his 22 years of service as a Salvation Army officer, Major Lumb has held appointments in corps, Employment Plus, divisional headquarters and territorial headquarters.
Prior to officership, Major Lumb held senior management roles and has worked in the corporate sectors of technology, construction and finance.
He has a deep commitment to seeing the Kingdom of God flourish and is passionate about our God-given mission to see souls saved.

Holds the role of Lead Independent on the Board, which carries the authority to communicate with International Headquarters directly in exceptional circumstances and chairs the Remuneration Committee.
Mr Grellman was a partner at the international accounting firm KPMG and rose to become a member of KPMG’s Board and National Executive. He currently sits on the boards of several public and some not-for-profit and private companies.
In 2007, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for service to the community, particularly through leadership roles within Mission Australia.

Brings significant finance and risk management expertise, having served as a senior audit partner at Deloitte for 28 years, until his retirement in November 2016.
He held several senior management roles at Deloitte, including managing partner for New South Wales from 2005 to 2008. Mr Couttas also served as a member of the Deloitte Australia Board from 2005 to 2016 and was Chairman of the firm’s Audit and Risk Committee for 11 years.
He is currently Chairman of Hireup Holdings and Director of Sydney Water Corporation and Virtus Health.

Holds extensive experience in public service — as a social work practitioner and senior executive in both social work and administrative leadership positions in Centrelink and Department of Human Services.
She has been a non-executive director of the Board since 2018 and has chaired the Quality and Safety Committee of the Board since August 2020.
Ms Hargreaves also works as a consultant social work practitioner with a focus on social work practice, leadership and disaster response and recovery.

A senior lawyer and regulatory specialist with a career spanning roles in private practice as well as the corporate and government sectors. Currently working as a Governance Partner at TasNetworks, Ms Natoli previously held the position of group senior manager in the Financial Services Group at the Australian Securities and Investment Commission where she worked for 14 years.
Ms Natoli is passionate about using her qualifications and skills to benefit the community and has served on various governance boards and committees.

The CEO of First Australians Capital, an Australian Advisory Board on Impact Investing, Children’s Ground and Social Ventures Australia.
A Gooreng Gooreng man, Mr Appo served in the Royal Australian Air Force and is a graduate of the University of Sydney, Melbourne Business School and Harvard University.
He has been awarded the Defence Service Medal, Centenary Medal and Order of Australia Medal.

A retired thoracic and sleep specialist with over four decades of experience in both public and private healthcare.
After graduating from the University of Queensland in 1974, he pursued postgraduate training in Australia, England and Canada. Dr Brown has worked extensively in the diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases, particularly focusing on dust-related conditions such as black lung and silicosis.
He has also managed private Sleep and Lung Function Laboratories in partnership with other physicians, and held leadership positions on various boards.

Responsible for the operational management of the Australia Territory.
Colonel Chamness is an officer of the USA Western Territory whose leadership is marked by innovation, compassion and a deep commitment to inclusion. Prior to his appointment to the Australia Territory, Colonel Chamness was serving as Chief Secretary of the Canada and Bermuda Territory.
Colonel Chamness holds a Master of Arts with a leadership focus from the Indiana Wesley Seminary.

Major Matthew Reeve is a Salvation Army officer with over 23 years of faithful service. He brings broad experience in corps ministry, territorial leadership and mission support, serving faith communities across Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales. Matthew has contributed to Social Mission, Officer Recruitment and mission alignment. He has served as Head of Mission Support and recently as Corps Officer at Camberwell Corps. He is deeply committed to seeing people grow in faith, purpose and service, and to supporting The Salvation Army to remain responsive and faithful in its mission.

Manikya is an active member of The Salvation Army’s International Social Justice Commission (ISJC) Women’s Group, and serves on the Moral and Social Issues Council (MASIC), which focuses on complex ethical and social issues impacting both the Church and society. She is also on the Standing Committee of the Victorian Council of Churches (VCC). Manikya has worked across a range of corps and mission expressions, including as a Project Coordinator with Salvation Army International Development.
Manikya holds degrees in business, commerce, ministry and theology.

Served for over 17 years in a variety of capacities with The Salvation Army New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa Territory (TSANZFTS) before moving to Australia in 2022 to take on her current role.
Aux-Lieutenant Keane served for six years as the territorial mission leader for women’s ministries (TSANZFTS), and her viral digital campaigns, community initiatives and advocating for justice as part of that role influenced The Salvation Army’s ministry to women internationally.
Her deep desire is to see mutuality, wholeness and oneness for all humanity, in Jesus’ name.

A General Practitioner based in Brisbane and a senior soldier at the North Brisbane Corps, was appointed to the Board in August 2024 as part of the Under-35 Board Participant Program, an observatory (non-voting) role that allows full participation in discussions.
Chosen for her professionalism and deep commitment to community care, Dr Lacey will serve as an Under-35 Board Participant for 12 months. She has a long history with The Salvation Army, beginning her journey in Sweden and continuing her involvement in Australia.
The purpose of this committee is to ensure the integrity of the financial statements, risk management framework and the system of internal controls, so that they align with The Salvation Army’s values and meet its legislative and regulatory obligations.
