Crisis relief

Meeting your immediate needs and working with you for long-term solutions.

A whole person approach

Each year, across Australia, thousands of individuals and families come to The Salvation Army for support meeting day to day expenses or paying unexpected bills. We help people with crisis relief to meet their immediate needs, because we believe no one should have to go without essentials (which often means food).

Although we recognise the importance of this service, we offer more than just a voucher for groceries or bills. We recognise that everyone possesses a unique range of strengths and skills to overcome life’s challenges.

When you come to the Salvos, we aim to journey with you to find long-term solutions to your struggles. We’ll work with you to identify and reach your goals. We believe this is best done in community and so we also support you with finding new opportunities for connecting with others. This whole person approach is called “Doorways”.

Doorways

We can provide urgent practical assistance alongside holistic case management support. Our case workers are passionate about encouraging you and walking alongside you as you develop your plans to achieve your goals. We’re here for you as much or as little as you want or need.

Our support could include referrals to other support services — both in The Salvation Army and externally. We may refer you to our financial assistance to help you regain control of your finances or reduce your risk of financial hardship, or we might put you in touch with another program – for example addiction or parent support.

Can’t find a Doorways case worker?

If you have visited a Salvos location without an appointed Doorways case worker, our corps officers, employees and volunteers are open to having a conversation with you about your needs and are willing to point you in the right direction. Ask us about what community services, social activities or spiritual support they offer at their location.
