Leaders of Change

Invites students to dive into Australia’s most significant social justice concerns, and plan a project designed to make a positive impact in their local communities.

Secondary: Year 9–12

This high participation workshop invites students to be ‘Leaders of Change’ and address a community issue of their choosing. Students explore some of the most pressing social justice issues in the community and collaboratively plan an action that makes a positive change.

Location

In school
or local Salvos by appointment

Attendees

12 to 30 students

Duration

90 minutes

Cost

$250 + GST

The students will leave the session not only with knowledge of the key social issues that are concerning Australians, but an understanding of The Salvation Army’s response and how they as students can make a positive difference.

We aim to challenge preconceptions, increase knowledge, inspire empathy and provide a platform for social justice activation. Students will be provided with scaffolding resources for their projects to assist in brainstorming, planning, promotion and implementation.

Beginning in this workshop — and continuing throughout the project — students will develop their understanding of the necessity of working together to create change while focusing on the leadership skills in collaboration, communication and planning.
