Safeguarding at The Salvation Army

How we keep you safe

At The Salvation Army, we care about you. No matter your age, background, language, ability or identity - you are welcome here

We work hard to stop problems before they happen.

Safe programs

  • We plan carefully, thinking about people, places and activities
  • We ask your parent or guardian to fill out a permission form
  • We explain your right to safety and how to speak up
  • We tell you who to talk to if something feels wrong

Safe leaders

  • We choose leaders who are trustworthy and kind
  • Leaders do safety checks and training before working with you

Safe spaces

  • We check rooms and outdoor areas to make sure they’re safe
  • We have enough leaders to supervise
  • Posters show who you can talk to if you feel unsafe
  • Our safety team visits sites to help improve things

Online safety

This includes how we communicate via text and social media platforms

  • We only use approved websites and apps
  • Leaders talk to you through safe channels
  • Your parent or guardian is always included

Program review

  • We check every program to make sure it’s still safe and fun

What you can expect from us

We will:

  • Respect your background, identity and experiences
  • Treat everyone equally
  • Help you be part of activities and decisions
  • Involve your family or carers
  • Ask for your ideas to make things better

What we won’t do

Your body is your own. No one should touch you in a way that hurts or makes you uncomfortable.

We will never:

  • Abuse or harm you
  • Use rude or hurtful language
  • Bully or harass you
  • Drive you anywhere without permission
  • Ask to spend time with you in secret
  • Message you privately on social media
  • Ask you to keep secrets about what we say or do

What you can do

We need your help to keep things safe:

  • Treat others fairly and kindly
  • Listen and support your group
  • Only take photos with permission
  • Follow safety rules from leaders

Running safe activities

We plan our activities well to ensure they are as safe as possible
