Townsville, a holistic and intensive program of support

Supporting young people experiencing problematic substance use issues

About this facility  

This three-month residential program supports up to eight young people aged 16–25 in four two-bedroom units, allowing each young person to be situated in their own bedroom for comfort, privacy and safety.

Our service is flexible and responsive to young people's unique needs.

The program encourages young people to participate in:

Sessions

Individual and group sessions with their case workers

Our service responses support harm reduction, with the aim of preventing or reducing harm to young people, their families and the wider community.

Responses include:

Case management support

Outreach case managers support young people with problems arising from substance use who are aged 12–25, located in:

  • Townsville
  • Ingham
  • Charters Towers
  • Ayr

Case managers can meet with young people wherever they feel most comfortable, including at home or in a local community space.

Support includes developing life and living skills, exploring education and employment pathways, advocacy and referrals to other services, and more.

Therapeutic group work

Therapeutic group work

The service creates a safe environment for young people to voice their concerns, ask questions, and gain the skills and awareness they need to make healthier choices.

Group work programs allow young people to enhance or develop their:

  • Relapse prevention skills
  • Positive coping skills
  • Self-esteem
  • Relationship skills
  • Communication skills
  • Emotional regulation
Life and Living Skills program

Life and Living Skills program

The program encourages independence with our youth workers assist young people to build their skills in cooking, budgeting, cleaning their home, healthy eating, exercise and living well.

We work alongside young people to create a tailored support plan that will help them develop the essential skills they need for a better quality of life.

Young people in the residential program are supported by youth workers 24 hours a day and have access to the following programs and activities:

  • Art room
  • Common area with pool table, TV, games and more
  • Healing gardens
  • Life and living skills meals program
  • Permaculture program
  • Pool table
  • Recreation Hall with basketball, tennis and gym
  • Swimming pool
  • Yarning Circles
