North East Victoria Youth Services

Youth justice and youth homelessness support

Support includes:

Two young women and a young man discuss their issues.

Case management

Shepparton and surrounds

Case managers provide support to young people aged 16–25 who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.

This can include situations such as couch surfing, living in unsafe, unsustainable or temporary accommodation or experiencing family violence.

We can work with you to achieve your ideal housing goals.

The program further supports you in addressing issues that may have contributed to your situation, including family breakdown, and offers referrals to specialist services where needed.

Youth accommodation

Shepparton

Located within Shepparton, the Youth Accommodation Program allows you to stabilise your situation and receive support to set goals for the immediate future.

The program is funded to provide up to eight weeks of accommodation for young people aged 16–25, during which time you are also supported to:

  • work toward finding sustainable housing
  • engage with the community and professional services
  • continue education and job seeking.

Qualified youth workers are onsite 24 hours and support young people within a therapeutic framework.

If you don’t already have professional support, a case manager will be appointed.

Youth Justice Group Conferencing and Diversion

Youth Justice Group Conferencing and Diversion

Referrals for Group Conferencing and Diversion occur via the court system. Participation is voluntary.

If you are required to present at Children's Court, you may be given the opportunity to participate in a Youth Justice Group Conference or Youth Diversion Conference

The Conference is your chance to:

  • talk about what happened
  • consider the impact of the offending
  • consider how to repair the harm caused.

Before the Conference, you will be asked to:

  • participate in some preparation sessions with the convenor
  • to identify people who are important to you who can support you at the conference.

The Salvation Army also runs restorative conferences for youth in the community. If you have a relationship you would like to repair, please contact us to discuss eligibility and possibilities.

Youth Justice Community Support Service

Youth Justice Community Support Service

Referrals into the Youth Justice Community Support Service occur via the Department of Justice and Regulation Victoria.

This service provides an individualised response for youth justice clients who present with a range of complex and varied needs.

It is an integrated approach to the provision of intensive support and services to youth justice clients to complement the statutory case management undertaken by youth justice units.
