Salvos Flood Appeal Report released

Published on
19 December 2024

As devastating floods swept across south-east Queensland and northern NSW in February 2022, The Salvation Army immediately stepped in, setting up hubs in 20 evacuation centres to assist not just those affected, but also the emergency services crew deployed. As the water receded, we transitioned to 30 high-traffic recovery hubs across the affected states, with the aim of providing ongoing support.

2022 and 2024 reports

Disasters can affect people in various ways – physical, financial and mental – amongst others. The Salvation Army aims to always be there to provide support throughout their recovery journey. With a long-term disaster recovery approach in mind, The Salvation Army strives to be there for those impacted through its response, recovery and rebuild phases.

The Flood Appeal reports outline where and how funds have been utilised as part of our three-stage support process and can be downloaded below.

Thanks to our generous donors, volunteers and supporters, The Salvation Army provided the following support in Queensland and New South Wales:

  • $19.2 million financial assistance and in-kind support such as food parcels, clothing, and household items
  • 50,000 people assisted
  • 250+ volunteers deployed in a total of 30 recovery hubs
  • 10,000+ volunteer hours worked at evacuation and recovery hubs
  • 42,647+ meals and refreshments served at evacuation centres

The Salvation Army is here for the long haul, supporting people and local communities along the road to recovery. We’re always ready to help and will continue to be present in the future, giving people affected by crisis the assistance and resources they need in the aftermath of a major life-changing disaster.
